Slovenia's Lakes and Alps

The first stop in the alps was at the very scenic Lake Bled. Here we toured a castle and then went down to the town and lake. A large part of our group paid to take the ½ hour oar boat ride to the island and visit the church for ½ hour, then return. We decided to walk around the lake. We were passed by the young couple, Dale and Katie, on bicycles. Paul went for a swim. It was 3.5 miles around. The crew that took the boat tour went to the same restaurant. Some did not get served in time to eat and by the time they paid they were late back to the bus. We start up the twisting road with 50 major hairpin curves, going up and down. We got a break at the Russian Church and at Kranjska Gora, Vrṡič 1611 m. With the alps towering over us, we shared a blueberry schnapps and an apple cake. We stopped to observe water that had cut deep canyons it the rock at Velika Korita Soče. We arrive at Hotel Hvala and Restaurant in Kobarid. We have a group dinner of fresh fish. Fabulous breakfast as seems to be usual. Fresh strawberries were a nice touch. We spent several hours in the local and award winning World War I museum. The curator and creator of the museum was our guide. He personalized this war as his mother had been involved in the resistance movement and there were remembrances of her throughout the museum. As we entered the valleys, our guide pointed out the stones on the red roof tiles. The stones were placed to hold the roof down when the high winds came every year. When you then look around with this information you see other signs of high winds (short trees).
